It was a crisp February afternoon, with frost sparkling on car windshields. Inside the Beaches Recreation Centre, though, warmth buzzed from the joyful energy of our youth volunteers which included the U9 Ted Reeve Tornados.
Tables stretched across the space, brimming with cozy blankets, water bottles, hot chocolate packets, and loot bags generously provided by Mastermind Toys, beach location.
While the totes were being packed, in the "Creative Corner," kids coloured and wrote inspiring messages inside cards that were the final add on to the totes.
70 totes were packed in total and will be delivered to the Red Door Family Shelter in Leslieville this week. We hope that this small gesture brings joy to the kids currently residing there.
As the volunteers wrapped up, one parent said, "This is what community is all about. Hockey brought us together, but giving back keeps us strong."
